DiPE representative in Ghana
Christian Chong Babinah is a twenty-one-year-old, from Lambusie in the Upper West region of Ghana, born to Mr. and Mrs. John Babinah and Mrs. Rose Mary Babinah, out of two wonderful kids he is the only male and last born child of Mr. and Mrs. Babinah. He is reflecting a varied personality including ambitions, and the qualities of generosity and thoughtfulness. He is also a well determined and vigorous individual, yet pleasantly calm. He encourages fighting for what you desire and believe in, and doing it through God because nothing great comes easy and with God everything is possible.
He is a fulltime student, motivated by his love for learning and succeeding, striving to become an outstanding and successful man in today’s society. The definitive goal of becoming a social change advocate and owing a renowned organization to address certain societal problems. He is currently studying Bachelor’s degree program in Social Change Communication at the University for Development Studies.
Through his passion in giving and helping others, he has embraced a fanatical interest in the operations of non-governmental organizations growing up and so have participated in some volunteering work with some NGO’s like International service and TradeAid integrated. Engaging in this made him fulfil his dream of helping to make a change and also building his capabilities, learning from people nationally and even internationally whiles being awarded with certificate for participation. He is now involved in making the world a better place to live in and as a role model; creating avenues for young individuals like him, through motivation and encouragements, which foster the establishment and development of their talents that can ultimately benefits our society.
Apart from the above, he has kept a keen interest in sports, enjoys reading and most importantly spending time with loved ones. What triggered his interest in the Digital power for Education was. On the 23rd of March, 2019, Digitals power for Education sent an invite for their page to be liked and after reading their missions he thought it was interesting and a bit different from other NGOs in Ghana whose main focus is providing good education, good health, good drinking water etc. This was actually his first time seeing an NGO focusing on internet. Going to school with limited access to internet made him miss out a lot he could have learnt, the initiative is a good one and thinking of such an initiative in Ghana would make a great transformation in schools.
Ghana where he comes from is a country located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the Sub region of West Africa. Spanning a land mass of 238,535km, Ghana is bordered by the Ivory coast in the West, Burkina Faso in the North, Togo in the East and the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south. The capital of Ghana is Accra, and the official language is English, Ghana has a population of approximately 30 million spans a variety of ethnic, linguistic and religious groups. According to the 2010 census 71.2% of the population was Christians, 17.6% was Muslims and 5.2% practiced traditional faiths. Its diverse geography and ecology ranges from costal savannah to tropical rain forests. The main economic natural resources in Ghana are gold, manganese, bauxite, industrial, diamonds, timber, rubber, hydropower, petroleum, silver, salt and limestone. Ghana is also the second largest exporter of cocoa in the world. The country is well noted for its democracy and peace in spite of this Ghana faces some development problems such as unemployment, poverty and unreliable electricity and Ghana’s major problems with other problems such as health, education, clean water and road.
With the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the help of some NGOs and philanthropist the hope is eradicate this problem. The mission of Digital Power Education is a key to a better education and making Africa a better place.
